Senegal: Senegal is surrounded by vibrant colors and rhythms. Learn about Dakar’s gorgeous roads and the history of Gorée Island, and enjoy the coral reef sea

What is Senegal often seen in soccer?

When you look at Senegal on a map, you may be surprised at how far it is, but for some reason it is also a country name that you often see.

👍 People are so kind

👍 The rarity of Africa x Islam

👍 Cheap prices

Unusual in Africa, no VISA required

Although a VISA is generally required to travel from Japan to Africa, Senegal is a rare country that does not require a VISA. However, proof of yellow fever vaccination (yellow card) is required .

You will also need to print out your accommodation information at both the immigration office when you enter the country and the immigration office when you leave the country . Senegal’s official language is French, so I would like to print out reservation information from Booking.com etc. in French and bring it with you.

Temperature differences that cannot be imagined from a map

The westernmost tip of vast West Africa. From Japan, it takes about 25 hours in total with 3 connecting flights.

Senegal is so far away that it doesn’t rain much and the days are hot, but the mornings and nights can be quite chilly .

Africa is often located at high altitudes, so mornings and nights are often cold. You will also need something to put on top.

Prices are almost the same as in Japan.

The prices at supermarkets and eating out are about the same as in Japan. I feel like local food is a little cheaper. Therefore, prices are almost the same as in Japan .

You can see that Japan is becoming a country where prices are becoming lower and lower.

The Africa I imagine is a little far away

Dakar, the capital city, is a growing city center and attracts a large number of people.

The images of Africa that we imagine can only be found when we visit a town a little far away. Red soil, big trees, and children playing .

Although Dakar is developed in the center of the country, it has a different scenery just a little further out.

lively market

Senegal is a country where markets are developed in various places .

You can see that it is deeply rooted in the lives of local people. Anyway, there was a lot of variety of products on display, and the store was very lively with people dressed in fashionable clothes.

world heritage of sadness

Goree Island, a world heritage site. It has a history of being a base for the slave trade . Being an island, you won’t be able to experience its sad past unless you visit the island.

The scenery may be different from what you expected when you actually step inside. That would be reality too.

Cheap lodging and Japanese lodging that strives to stay far away

I stayed in two extreme locations. One place is a cheap place for 3000 CFA (600 yen) per night . The other was an inn run by a Japanese man called “Chez Yamada”.

Although the accommodations were in different areas and operated by different operators, both had their merits. I felt that by experiencing multiple accommodations, I could learn more about the world.

food and beer

You can drink beer everywhere in Senegal .

It gets sweltering during the day, so a cold beer soaks up your body.

Beer was sold in bars and other places that were strictly controlled, so I think religion and culture have something to do with it.

Be careful with place names and pronunciation.

Senegal has many place names with similar spellings , and just a slight difference in pronunciation can make them completely different places. I fell into this trap (unintentionally).

If you are unsure of your pronunciation, I think it would be better to show them the letters. This story is common overseas, so I would like to be careful in any country.

Be careful when taking photos

Senegalese law does not provide for “freedom of panoramas,” and posting photos that focus on artworks is prohibited. It’s also a country where many people don’t want their photos taken, so you’ll want to be very careful when taking photos.

There are many scenes you want to photograph, such as oversized African Renaissance statues, but please be aware that there are also places and objects that you should not photograph .
